Our Weddings: What industry experts have to say

"The moment I met Jodi I felt this calm peace and joy surrounding her. I photographed a wedding she officiated and it was perfectly executed - short and sweet, fun, and personal to the couple. I immediately knew I wanted her to be the one to marry my partner and I" - Jenifer Boyce Photography

"No matter how formal or informal, long or short, or which traditions you wish to incorporate, Jodi will do a superior job of crafting a ceremony that is personal, warm, honest and truly a reflection of your relationship. She is one of the loveliest humans I have ever met, and she will instantly put you and your guests at ease (which is particularly important in those last few, nervous, minutes before the ceremony!). You cannot go wrong with Jodi as your officiant. Professional, kind and accommodating, she’ll go above and beyond to make your ceremony amazing." - Amy, Unmistakably You

``Jodi is an incredible officiant. I have worked alongside her at many weddings and she is simply amazing. 10/10 recommend - Alex, AK Productions

"As a wedding DJ, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Jodi on a few occasions. Not only is she professional and kind-hearted, but she has such a warm personality and it is clear that she cares deeply about all the couples she works with. I recommend her to all my clients in need of an officiant!" - Tom, DJ Stash

The nitty gritty

"Words do not paint the love you gave for us on that special day"
- Char & Rob

Step 1: Pre-Ceremony Consultation.

Once you contact us to express interest, we will email you a questionnaire that can be completed online. It's just some basics to get a sense of what you're planning.

Then we set up a chance to meet in person or via Skype if you prefer. This is our chance to get to know one another, to ask questions to decide if one of our officiants is the right fit for your special day. During this consultation we can delve into the range of possibilities for your ceremony (number of guests you're expecting, location etc.), and really, the sky is the limit.

There is no charge for this initial meet & greet.

Questions we might have for you:

  • Can you recall a ceremony you watched that had something happen you either wanted or did not want?
  • Can you walk me through your ceremony day?
  • For each of you, what is your ideal ceremony? Why?
  • Who is that one person, other than one another, who you turn to when times are tough?
  • Are there any vendors or resources I could help with?

Step 2: Yes, I'd be honoured.

Now the fun begins. Once you've decided a Something Officiant is right for you, they will send a link to your contract that outlines what you can expect and the payment schedule for you to review. You can sign your contract electronically.

Prior to your ceremony, your officiant can meet another 1-2 more times (as requested) to review your preferences, finalize ceremony structure, and review your ceremony wording. It is very important to us that we have a clear understanding of the terminology you would like used throughout your ceremony (i.e. spouses, husband/wife, partners, personal pronouns).

Here is where we also get into the fine details of your ceremony, such as: will you be having children involved in your ceremony, will you be exchanging rings (not everyone does), how would you like me to announce you, are there any family members who'd like to be involved with readings?

We available by email or text to answer any questions you may have as we plan your day. We work with some fantastic local vendors, so if you're on the lookout for suggestions please let us know.

Step 3: On the day of your ceremony.

On the day of your ceremony your officiant will arrive at least 30 minutes early to check in with you, other vendors (if applicable) and the wedding party, if applicable, to review the ceremony.

At this point, your officiant will also start the paper work, and set up the licence and registrar book for signing.

You're welcome to text your officiant at any point during the day to fill them in on any last minute details you'd like them to know, or to ask any questions.

Step 4: After the ceremony.

Your officiant will say their final good-byes within 30 minutes of your ceremony. They will assemble your documents and leave with your coordinator, or with a trusted loved one.

After the ceremony your officiant will complete your marriage licence, and mail it to the Office of the Registrar General.

We are available should you run into any troubles getting a copy of your marriage certificate. Remember to wait about 6-8 weeks to apply for your copy.

Vow Renewals

Your vow renewal should have all the joy and passion (and then some), of the day you took your original vows. In fact, re-committing to your relationship and the vows you took might be a reflection of the deepening of your love and recognition of the importance of your partnership that only time and togetherness through shared experiences can bring.

Whatever the milestone your meeting, Something New will work to craft a ceremony to reflect your renewed sense of commitment to your relationship.

"We loved being able to forget about logistics and focus on us, so thank you very much for listening to and talking with us."
